- Make of list of items that have been damaged or destroyed and, where possible, take photographs or a video of the items before disposing of them.
- Take the necessary precautions to prevent further damage and keep receipts for expenses you incur as a result of the incident.
- Keep all receipts for lodging and meal expenses outside of your home. Depending on the cause of damage and your policy, these costs may be reimbursed.
